My degree project Almost Through the Theory of a Whole explores the Hollow Earth Theory, conspiratorial thinking and conspiracy theories. The modern Hollow Earth Theory has its roots in the seventeenth century and since then has branched into different directions to incorporate ideas of lost continents, mysticism, flying saucers, New Age religion, Buddhist legends, science fiction magazines, ancient alien civilisations, etc.
In Almost Through the Theory of a Whole, I have rebuilt the Hollow Earth with the use of artificial intelligence and neural networks, using the rich literary history of these theories to construct images, videos and poetic fragments. In parallel, I have also mapped out the branchings of the theories.
The aim of this project has been to investigate and visualise conspiratorial and pseudo-scientific thinking; how ideas and concepts are connected and constructed, and how fact and fiction blend together throughout this history.
