Making Thread

Uncertain, fumbling hands trying to understand, do, redo.
But time creates muscle memory, begins to trust that the body knows what it is doing.

Knowledge, often so-called tacit knowledge, which is slowly lost, and the desire to learn, understand, preserve. To take my time, to be in the slow, gives me a sense of a now and a relation to something greater — a then.

I make the same little repeated movement that generation after generation has made before me.

Almost solely working mechanically with my body. Repetition that doesn’t require new decisions. It’s just that the body isn’t a machine. The work is affected by physical conditions, moods and thoughts that wander away, and by the material, which has its own will, its own life.
