AGGRESSIVE TEXTILE

My degree project is a performative design work staging hypermasculinity. Through the creation of an alter ego, I explore how aggressiveness can be expressed using textiles. I have examined different cultures of violence with a focus on wrestling culture, and my alter ego is expressed through a muscle suit.

The muscle suit is framed by a wrestling ring and together, they create a gluttony of sports aesthetics, primary colours and aggressiveness. In the project, gender theory goes up against extreme sports and the textile arts. I explore these contexts and their relationships to one another through a performance.

Let’s get ready to rumble!
