This is a landscape inhabited by queer creatures, existing in the borderlands between human, animal and nature, perhaps originating from the bottom of the deepest oceans or from the hearts of the darkest forests. They are dressed in abstracted garments and embellished with bows and flowers, forcing them into a feminine position. Do they feel exposed? Or beautiful?
The heart pattern is recurring, in a blurred, bleeding state. This worn symbol has been punctured, in an attempt to open it up to all the complexities of human existence.
In 1965, Sigmund Freud wrote on the topic of femininity, “if you want to know more about femininity, enquire from your own experiences of life, or turn to the poets”. It still seems up to us working in the realms of art and poetry to provide a deeper materialised view on what femininity can be.
