– Reinforce the Existing for Future Common Spaces
Åskvädret 2 is a former heating plant in Björkhagen, which is now threatened with demolition. I move alongside the building, up a small hill, along the brick facade and the barred doors, next to political processes, economic calculations and near the local association Björkhagens Hjärta.
Björkhagen is a typical example of 1940s neighbourhood planning that offered everything for daily life, including community facilities and cultural spaces. Today, we see urban planning that focuses on maximising square metres of living space. We need places to live. But where are the places for socialising, dancing, playing and debating?
Through additions and spatial interventions that capture local stories and materials, I want to explore alternative ways to develop a building.
