Xiaoyi Shen

Design for me is about finding ways to blur the boundaries of human frameworks. Using mixed media, I weave alternative realities and in-between spaces with variant species, by creating what if scenarios that bounce between imagination and reality, here and there, now and then.

In my degree project, I speculate about a parallel world where a parliament chair is designed for more-than-humans to speak up within a political construct which has been fabricated by humans. In this narrative, we notice the grammar of other beings and relearn the ethics of respect and interdependency through deep listening to our often quiet neighbours on this planet.
