Blå saknad

(For Gran)

In a basket in my childhood home lies your last bit of knitting, which has now stopped. It is in hues of violet and I don’t know what the end result was meant to be. It pains me to see it, and at the same time, I am filled with beautiful memories.

The ring that you always wore, that used to feel like it was fused with your body, is now an object in my possession. You gave it to my mother and said that you wanted me to have it. Your necklace is now mum’s. It hangs around her neck.

Blå saknad (Blue Loss) is a personal project about absence and presence through remaining objects. About the everyday objects that suddenly transition to another stage and become important, evocative bearers of memory. The work is also about transitoriness — about the inevitability of time, which has its own course. Can objects function as links to a person we have lost?
